Exotic Naples elegance: New Fifth Avenue South game-changing restaurant sets November opening

As if Fifth Avenue South couldn’t get any more fun, it will with the newest outpost of Le Colonial.

As a (very minor and junior) member of the PR firm that helped open the original restaurant in 1993 on East 57th Street in Manhattan, my first impression was that of a glamourous movie set from a bygone era.

The space was exotic and seductive, with banana trees and lush potted palms evoking laid-back elegance.

The concept: Fine-dining French-Vietnamese cuisine nestled in a lush setting evoking the romance and soft architecture of Saigon in the 1920s. The restaurant quickly developed a loyal clientele that remained devoted until its 2019 closing.

It was among the first restaurants anywhere to make lounge dining a haute trend with comfortable, luxe furnishings paired with elegant and delicious small-plate options.

Frontier expands gateway to Florida, adding five new routes to RSW in Fort Myers

Frontier Airlines recently announced additional routes heading south, and Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) was one of the biggest winners with five new routes scheduled to start later this year.

This is the time of year when airlines plan ahead and target sunseekers looking to escape the northern winter snow.

Frontier Airlines new routes to RSW starting in November

Detroit (DTW) − three times a week

Syracuse (SYR) − three times a week

Buffalo (BUF) − up to four time a week

Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) − daily service

Long Island (ISP) − daily service

All of the above routes will take off Nov. 16, except Buffalo, which starts on Nov. 17.

New high-rise apartments taking shape in East Naples

The development Metropolitan Naples is taking shape, with its first high-rise tower well underway.

The first tower ― a luxury apartment development, known as Ascent in East Naples ― broke ground nearly a year ago. Concrete has been poured up to the eighth floor.

Construction won’t be finished until next year. There are still seven more floors to go, before reaching the roof.

“We’re a little more than halfway there now,” said Deane Dolben, president of The Dolben Co., one of the partners in Ascent.

The tower is rising in an area known as the Gateway Triangle, named for its pizza-like shape. It sits between Davis Boulevard to the north and U.S. 41 to the south in East Naples.

Apartments, big and small
Ascent will offer 270 apartments, ranging from 576-square-foot studios to 2,133-square-foot penthouses.

The building will include a large 6,500-square-foot restaurant and a smaller 1,200-square foot retail store, along with a five-story parking garage. The apartments will start on the third floor, wrapping around the garage, which is built into the development, Dolben explained.
