Naples Comprehensive Health is working on plans with a Florida company for an osteopathic medical school in Collier County.
The estimated $170-million project that is targeted to open in the fall of 2028 will be built in East Naples near the corner of Rattlesnake Hammock Road and Collier Boulevard.
It is a five-acre site that is “shovel-ready” for the building of just under 110,000 square feet.
Bay College of Osteopathic Medicine LLC is looking for a “sister school” to complement its recently completed Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine, according to county documents.
The Collier County Commission on Nov. 10 unanimously approved $6 million in economic development funds over 10 years for the initiative.
The project is expected to have a $1.7 billion to $2 billion overall economic impact in the region over 25 years, according county officials.
NCH in a statement said that the academic partner would oversee day-to-day operations, construction and faculty.
The Naples College of Osteopathic Medicine will accommodate 400 students on campus and is expected to graduate its first class in 2032, according to Dr. Robert Hasty, dean of the Orlando osteopathic school.
The project will go a long way toward addressing a physician shortage that is ongoing in the region, similarly to a physician shortage statewide and nationally, officials say.

Liz Freeman | Naples Daily News
Residents of the growing community of Ave Maria will have another option for medical care in the near future.
The nonprofit hospital system NCH is collaborating with Barron Collier Companies for an immediate care clinic in Midtown Plaza on Ave Maria Boulevard.
The clinic will offer care for non-life threatening illnesses and injuries with specialists coming on site on a rotating basis. The clinic will encompass 6,000 square feet of building space.
A future endeavor for the community will be a freestanding 24-hour emergency room near the main entrance to Ave Maria. The freestanding ER will be modeled after NCH’s two existing ones in Northeast Collier at Immokalee Road and Collier Boulevard and in Bonita Springs.

NCH officials marked an end to one era and welcomed the start of a new one Wednesday.
Dozens of hospital leaders and medical staff gathered outside the Telford Education Center, which sits south of the Baker Hospital near downtown Naples, to mark the demolition of Telford.

The 189,000-square-foot, five-story complex that is contemporary in design will consolidate heart and stroke care in one location with the latest technology for optimal patient care. Another goal is recruiting some of the best cardiac and stroke specialists from around the country to join NCH staff.

Not that we didn’t know this already, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded: Naples is a great place to retire in Florida.
Kiplinger agrees, picking Naples as one of its six ‘best places’ to retire in Florida for 2025.

The Naples Pathways Coalition is the driving force behind an ambitious project for more options for walking, running, and bicycling without worry of getting hit by cars.
The project, Paradise Coast Trail, was introduced by the coalition in 2018. It is proposed as 100 miles of paved pathway, separate from roads, that will connect Naples to Ave Maria and to Collier Seminole State Park, and Bonita Springs, according to the coalition’s executive director, Michelle Avola-Brown.
In 2023, the state Legislature adopted the segment of the Paradise Coast Trail from Marco Island through Naples, the new Paradise Coast Sports Complex, Ave Maria, Everglades City, and Immokalee into the state’s SUN Trail network that runs through the state.
