Aspen developer proposes major development in downtown Naples

Aspen developer proposes major development in downtown Naples

Laura Layden | Naples Daily News

An out-of-town developer has proposed a lofty redevelopment project in downtown Naples.

It would span nearly two city blocks.

The application is still winding its way through the city’s review and approval process. Ultimately, it needs a thumbs up from City Council – and a final sign off from the city’s Design Review Board – to happen.

Here’s some of what we know:

The redevelopment proposal involves more than 4 acres of mostly vacant land, between the historic Tin City and the infamous Fifth Avenue shopping district.

The property sits east of Four Corners, where U.S. 41 turns east toward Miami…

Long-time Naples residents will recognize one of those addresses as the former home of the iconic St. George & The Dragon restaurant, the dimly lit, old-school steakhouse that operated at 936 Fifth Ave. S. for more than 40 years…

Naples, Fort Myers restaurants named among best in Florida on Yelp list

Diana Biederman | Naples Daily News

Yelp released its Top 100 restaurants in Florida list for 2023 based on the platform’s user reviews. Fort Myers and Naples claimed three spots on the list at numbers 57, 84 and 100.

Only one restaurant on the list is a repeat winner from 2022: Café Flore (No. 23), Petar’s (No. 59) and Rumba Cuban Cafe (last year’s overall fifth place winner) are absent this year.

And the winners are

  • Uncle Rico’s Pizza (No. 57): Although this popular pizza joint didn’t earn bracket love from News-Press readers, Yelpers love it…
  • Organically Twisted (No. 84): Starting as a food truck in 2013, John Hart’s Organically Twisted emerged as Naples must-visit vegetarian-vegan-gluten-free temple…
  • Dixie Fish Co. (No. 100): After Hurricane Ian slammed the restaurant, it re-opened Feb. 23, earning the last coveted slot on Yelp’s list…
