Dave Osborn | Naples Daily News

…the Sunshine State remains among the most desirable places in the country.

Fourteen Florida cities made the new 2023-24 list of the 150 “Best Places to Live in the U.S.” that U.S. News & World Report released Tuesday.

Other highlights:

Florida is home to four of the top five “Fastest Growing Places” and four of the top five “Safest Places.”
Sarasota was ranked No. 5, again leading the state as the top place to live. Naples was the only other Florida city to make the top 10, at No. 6.

6. Naples is ‘retirement spot for the rich, powerful’
In the Know: Built in 2014, this Naples beachfront residence at 25 16th Ave. sold for $62 million on June 30, 2022, setting a new Collier County record.
This long-ago sleepy fishing town jumped to No. 6 this year from No. 12. Naples also ranked as the No. 1 safest place. Last year, the magazine referred to Naples as “a preferred retirement spot for the rich, powerful and cold-averse,” with “pristine beaches, sprawling golf courses, and fine dining and shopping. Naples, the 2023-24 list said, jumped into the Top 10 because of its “high desirability score,” meaning the city scored well as a place where people want to live, based on SurveyMonkey polling in March…which ranked Naples #1…for places to live in the U.S. by Scholaroo, a nonprofit educational research company and scholarship website engine.

Ritz-Carlton, Naples, slammed by Hurricane Ian, to reopen in July

Ritz-Carlton, Naples, slammed by Hurricane Ian, to reopen in July

Laura Layden | Naples Daily News

The iconic Ritz-Carlton, Naples will welcome back visitors this summer.

Shuttered since Hurricane Ian, the hard-hit resort on Vanderbilt Beach has announced a reopening date.

It won’t open in time for Fourth of July, but within days of it. The date of its return: July 6.

With its reopening, the resort will debut more than a few changes. And it’s hiring again, after laying off nearly 600 workers.

The coastal property was in the midst of a multimillion-dollar renovation when Ian hit in September, forcing an unexpected closure and triggering hundreds of layoffs.

With 474 rooms and suites, the resort promises to be bigger and better, as it ushers in a new chapter.

Upgrades include the new Vanderbilt Tower, with an expansive new club lounge and more than 70 club-level guest rooms.

Naples lands on travel destination list for first-time solo travelers

Naples lands on travel destination list for first-time solo travelers

Mark H. Bickel | Fort Myers News-Press

Naples is a popular travel destination. We know this. People come to Naples from all over this country and all over the world.

The city has amazing restaurants. It has outstanding golf courses. There are numerous cultural attractions from the arts to the theater and of course, the philharmonic.

So, it should not be a surprise to see Naples appear on another “destination” list.

But this one is a little different.

Naples appears on a list that ranks it as the No. 5 destination in the U.S. for first-time solo travelers.

And Naples is one of those places, coming in behind No. 1 Washington, D.C, Austin, Texas, Denver and Portland, Oregon.

Part of the research highlights a “top attraction to visit in the destination”. For Naples, using Trip Advisor and TikTok data it is the Naples Botanical Garden.

“We are excited to top this list for individual travelers, and we think it’s fitting that they favor spending time at Naples Botanical Garden,” said Andrea Nickrent, Vice President of Development & Marketing for the Naples Botanical Garden. “Solo travelers can essentially choose their own adventure on our 170-acre campus. Gardens are full of sights, sounds, and scents that can be enjoyed at your own pace. Many visitors like to explore on their own and take advantage of our self-guided audio tours, join one of our daily group tours, or just experience the respite that is Naples Botanical Garden.”

First rooftop restaurant planned on Fifth Avenue South in Naples

First rooftop restaurant planned on Fifth Avenue South in Naples

Laura Layden | Naples Daily News

By next year, swanky Fifth Avenue South could have its first rooftop restaurant.

Plans for a Prime Social on Naples’ unofficial “Main Street” are slowly advancing.

The project is winding its way through the city’s review and approval process.

Most recently, the Design Review Board got a second look at the conceptual plans, which continue to evolve.

The restaurant would be one of the largest on the avenue – at roughly 7,800 square feet. It would include outdoor dining, with sweeping views of the city.

Prime Social is a newer concept by Cameron Mitchell Restaurants. On the restaurants’ website, it’s described as a “lively and dynamic rooftop cocktail lounge designed for conversation,” where people can “gather to enjoy the moment.” The first one opened in Kansas City, Missouri in 2021.

The one in Naples will require a third story addition to a prominent commercial building at 837 Fifth Avenue S.

The building’s current tenants include Chops City Grill and Engel & Volkers Real Estate.
