Auction of Everglades City Railroad Depot canceled last minute with owner, roofer deal

J. Kyle Foster | Naples Daily News

Everglades City’s historic Railroad Depot apparently has more lives. A last-minute deal between the owner and a jilted roofing company was made Thursday, keeping the building from the auction block.

A foreclosure auction was set for Thursday morning with the dilapidated property set to go to the highest cash bidder. According to court documents, Naples-based Sun Coast Roofing Inc.’s attorney told Collier County Court Judge Michael J. Brown that “an agreement had been reached by the parties to stay the sale.”

No details of that agreement were in the documents.

Bill Odrey, owner of Everglades Adventure Center LLC ― the name under which the depot is registered ― did not answer questions sent by text. Naples Daily News asked whether someone had offered the money to pay Sun Coast or perhaps whether the bank with which he has a mortgage on the property stepped up to take care of the lien placed by Sun Coast to remain the first lienholder.

Questions remain. Like, what’s next? Read more on naplesnews.com.

What’s a “best beach towns” list without Naples being mentioned?

Not credible. At least that is our opinion.

So, kudos to Southern Living for getting the job done with its “The 50 best beach towns in the South 2025” list. The experts at Southern Living narrowed things down and beautiful Naples is No. 22 in the rankings.

SW Florida International among 7 largest airports on Earth?

Yep, it’s true. Runway plans.

Phil Fernandez | Naples Daily News

RSW among seven largest airports in the world? Yeah, we were surprised, too. Plus, reader question: When are we getting that second runway?

After the early March column on Southwest Florida International Airport and its billions of bucks, we heard from the always insightful reader John Jaffee, who flung a good follow-up question at In the Know.

“Phil, thanks for all the facts and figures about RSW that keeps getting more popular every year,” Estero’s Double J-meister said. “One fact I was hoping for some insight on: The second runway. I know it is planned for. Any idea the timeline for it?”

OK., Jaffman. Let’s give that one a whirl, and also provide the latest stats that show RSW is one of the largest airports on Earth. Yep, that was a little surprising even to those of us who grew up here.

New record? ‘Architectural marvel’ lists for $15.5 million on Marco Island

Laura Layden | Naples Daily News

An “architectural marvel” has hit the market for $15.5 million on Marco Island.

If the statement estate sells at its asking price, it could set a new record on the island.

To date, the all-time record price paid for a single-family residence is $14.8 million. That record was set back in 2022.

The new waterfront listing is for a two-story custom home, designed by Bill Lewis and built by Ross Tackett in 2020. It spans more than 6,400 square feet under air.

The home is described as a “sanctuary of refined comfort and style.” It sits at 1829 South Inlet Drive.
