Lee County is widening Corkscrew Road from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Alico Road, a distance of 4.4 miles. The design of the roadway improvements consists of two phases: Phase 1, Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Bella Terra Boulevard, and Phase 2, Bella Terra Boulevard to Alico Road.
Phase 2 has started and Lee County said drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists are urged to use extra caution when traveling through the work zone.
- Motorists should expect lane closures during the nighttime/overnight hours of 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for crews to work on storm sewer and force main crossings. Flaggers will be onsite to assist motorists. ·
- Motorists should drive with caution and expect intermittent daytime flagging as road crews are performing earthwork up to the shoulders of the road on Corkscrew Road and Alico Road, within the project limits. Please be aware that trucks may be entering and leaving the roadway.
- Crews will be installing drainage throughout the project area on the south side of Corkscrew Road. Motorists should expect trucks and equipment to be moving materials throughout the project.
- A new traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Corkscrew Road and Alico Road which became fully operational on Thursday, April 17. Motorists are urged to drive with caution.
