Naples’ downtown has a sizable proposed redevelopment project.
With three-story buildings planned just east of Four Corners, a significant renovation project in downtown Naples would visibly extend Fifth Avenue South, the city’s historic main boulevard, according to a recent article from Wink News and Gulfshore business Tim Aten.
On more than 4.5 acres that include the former iconic St. George and the Dragon restaurant site at Fifth Avenue South and 10th Street South as well as six other nearby parcels, the significant proposal from Aspen, Colorado-based M Development proposes to cluster a new Whole Foods Market, Restoration Hardware, restaurants and other retailers with luxury condominiums in three-story buildings. The enormous location on roughly two blocks of downtown real estate, which stretches to 11th Street South and Sixth Avenue South, is regarded as a gateway into the city of Naples.

~Boaters and beachgoers urged to give space to nesting birds along area beaches.~
- Beach-nesting birds have begun their breeding season along Florida’s coasts. Spring and summer are very important for these endangered species because that’s when they have to raise their young without getting hurt by people, storms, or other animals.
The eggs of seabirds and shorebirds are laid right on the sand. They think that people and dogs are dangerous and will fly away if beachgoers or their dogs get too close. Repeated human disturbance often results in birds abandoning the colony. Important nesting areas are posted or roped off so that people can’t go there while state-threatened birds lay eggs and raise chicks. This keeps people from disturbing the birds.
The Second Chance Critical Wildlife Area (CWA) in Collier County is now closed to boaters and landers until August 31. This is to let the birds nest without being disturbed. The shell island is at the end of Cape Romano on the south side, which is south of Marco Island.

Travels around town this week include a peek inside a buzzed-about new private venue in North Naples, where memberships are priced along the lines of an exclusive golf or country club. While fees are kept mum, legendary captain of industry J.P. Morgan’s once said, “If you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it.”
The best way to describe it: Imagine designer Tom Ford opening a restaurant on Giorgio Armani’s yacht where nestling in a banquette is like being cocooned in a plush quilted Chanel bag. It’s quite lovely.
