Naples Beach Club developers seek design changes

Naples Beach Club developers seek design changes

…to ‘improve views and visual connections to golf’

Laura Layden | Naples Daily News

The Naples Beach Club development continues to evolve.

The developers are seeking city approval for another set of design changes.

The latest revisions involve a roughly 10.2-acre parcel within the nearly 125-acre redevelopment site.

The biggest adjustment: Replacing an existing hotel clubhouse and conference center, rather than remodeling it.

The center, part of the former Naples Beach Hotel, was built more than 20 years ago. It sits on the east side of Gulf Shore Boulevard North, near South Golf Drive.

The seafood dish of the year found downtown at new Italian cafe

The seafood dish of the year found downtown at new Italian cafe

Diana Biederman | Naples Daily News

My first impression of Fifth Avenue South when moving here? A high-low hodge-podge of restaurants and retailers.

Case in point: Marilyn’s and Kay’s who don’t compete for shoppers. Butterfly necklaces for $10,000 at Provident or the $14 version at Best of Everything across the way.

Two years later, Sails across from Subway.

You get the gist.

Posting my thoughts on TripAdvisor earned a rebuttal from the biz district’s former boss though a dozen of the site’s users clicked thumbs up.

But times have changed; two hurricanes and a global pandemic later, Fifth Avenue is upping its exclusivity factor.

Subway is gone. The chain’s replacement since late December?

Casa Neri, a sister restaurant to next door’s Molto Trattoria, home to my favorite Caesar salad, and La Pescheria on the next block. All three are co-owned by the brother-sister duo Andrea and Francesca Neri, who I interviewed and photographed Jan. 3.

Everglades National Park named best birding park in the country

Everglades National Park named best birding park in the country

Here are 5 birds you can see there.

Chad Gillis | Fort Myers News Press

Everglades National Park is a place of wonder and beauty.

Encompassing 1.5 million acres of a subtropical paradise that’s unique to South Florida, it’s the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi River, and the park is famous for its plethora of birds, from bald eagles to wood storks and roseate spoonbills.

Home also to the endangered Florida panther, black bears and Burmese pythons, Everglades National Park is truly expansive. It’s home to one of the most productive ecosystems on this continent, evidence by the sheer volume of wildlife that can be found here.

A reddish egret feeds in the shallows at Bunche Beach in Fort Myers. The species is one of more than 300 that make Everglades National Park the top spot for birding in the nation, a report says.

The park was recently named the best birding park in the nation by Travel Lens. With more than 300 bird species roaming the park, we decided to cut the list down to five extraordinary bird species that can be found in Everglades National Park.
