Ciao’s replacement is set to open this week and its kitchen boasts one of Southwest Florida’s most respected chefs. I can pinky promise you the line to dine will be out the door, so if you don’t have the Resy app on your phone, download it pronto for a chance to visit.

Travels around town this week include a peek inside a buzzed-about new private venue in North Naples, where memberships are priced along the lines of an exclusive golf or country club. While fees are kept mum, legendary captain of industry J.P. Morgan’s once said, “If you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it.”

The best way to describe it: Imagine designer Tom Ford opening a restaurant on Giorgio Armani’s yacht where nestling in a banquette is like being cocooned in a plush quilted Chanel bag. It’s quite lovely.

The seafood dish of the year found downtown at new Italian cafe

The seafood dish of the year found downtown at new Italian cafe

My first impression of Fifth Avenue South when moving here? A high-low hodge-podge of restaurants and retailers.

Case in point: Marilyn’s and Kay’s who don’t compete for shoppers. Butterfly necklaces for $10,000 at Provident or the $14 version at Best of Everything across the way.

Two years later, Sails across from Subway.

You get the gist.

Posting my thoughts on TripAdvisor earned a rebuttal from the biz district’s former boss though a dozen of the site’s users clicked thumbs up.

But times have changed; two hurricanes and a global pandemic later, Fifth Avenue is upping its exclusivity factor.

Subway is gone. The chain’s replacement since late December?

Casa Neri, a sister restaurant to next door’s Molto Trattoria, home to my favorite Caesar salad, and La Pescheria on the next block. All three are co-owned by the brother-sister duo Andrea and Francesca Neri, who I interviewed and photographed Jan. 3.
