My first impression of Fifth Avenue South when moving here? A high-low hodge-podge of restaurants and retailers.

Case in point: Marilyn’s and Kay’s who don’t compete for shoppers. Butterfly necklaces for $10,000 at Provident or the $14 version at Best of Everything across the way.

Two years later, Sails across from Subway.

Posting my thoughts on TripAdvisor earned a rebuttal from the biz district’s former boss though a dozen of the site’s users clicked thumbs up.

But times have changed; two hurricanes and a global pandemic later, Fifth Avenue is upping its exclusivity factor.

Subway is gone. The chain’s replacement since late December?

Casa Neri, a sister restaurant to next door’s Molto Trattoria, home to my favorite Caesar salad, and La Pescheria on the next block. All three are co-owned by the brother-sister duo Andrea and Francesca Neri, who I interviewed and photographed Jan. 3.
